A new series of LEDs from Osram Opto Semiconductors packaged in matte-black material offers higher contrast with lower reflectivity than its white-packed counterparts.
The TopLED Black Series with lens is a range of medium-power LEDs designed for display applications where contrast is important, especially in ambient lighting conditions.
It represents the first TopLED in a black package to achieve a typical luminous intensity of 1.9 cd at 20 mA – the same intensity as a comparable LED in a white package.
Initially available in red and yellow, the series comes equipped with a thin-film chip that guarantees high efficiency and the 60-degree angle of the beam has been optimised for display applications, making them ideal for replacing through-hole radial LEDs.
Last month saw Osram join forces with Siemens to launch a competition which has drawn ideas from designers around the world on the next generation of LED lighting solutions.
