New software is being introduced by IBM which extracts business information from millions of interconnected sensors linking items in the physical world.
Websphere Sensor Events captures data from networked sensors and provides an automatic reaction by a business system that spans the entire range of a client's solution requirements.
The information is also used to help the everyday lives of people outside of the business world by enhancing traffic flow, guaranteeing the authenticity of prescription drugs and providing detailed information to consumers about their goods.
Automobile manufacturers such as Volkswagen are employing IBM's sensor software to access logistical information on their shipping containers.
"By capturing and analysing information from sensors, clients are infusing their operations with unprecedented levels of intelligence and agility," commented Martin Wildberger, vice-president of IBM Sensor Solutions.
IBM recently partnered with Trafficmaster in the UK to analyse driver data gleaned from sensors in order to reduce the time motorists spend in traffic.
