The UK's leading bakery retailer is believed to have become the first retail chain in Europe to illuminate the sales area completely with LED light sources at a new concept store.
Greggs' new outlet in Bromley, Kent has had LEDs supplied and designed by Philips Lighting installed throughout the shop, leading to expected energy savings of 50 per cent and a reduction in carbon emissions of two tonnes per year.
The low heat output of the LED fittings will also reduce air conditioning requirements, saving even more energy during hotter months.
"We had been following the progress of LED lighting for some time, waiting for it to offer both the levels of performance and the cost-effectiveness we required," commented Garry Graham, shop premises manager at Greggs.
The announcement follows news that MarkTech LED lighting has introduced its improved PAR20 bulb for indoor retail and industrial lighting applications.
