American Airlines is replacing thousands of its traditional lighting fixtures with energy-efficient LEDs.<br/> <br/>The project is being carried out with Oncor in what is one of the largest single installations of its kind in the United States.<br/> <br/>Installation is currently underway as part of the Take A Load Off, Texas LED Lighting Program being run by Oncor.<br/> <br/>This offsets some of the cost of installing the LED lighting system with incentives that help save electricity.<br/> <br/>"With their long lifespans and durability, LEDs offer operational savings and can be a major component in reducing carbon footprints," said Michael Stockard, Oncor energy efficiency programmes director.<br/> <br/>LED lighting consumes 60 per cent less energy and lasts three times longer than traditional light sources.<br/> <br/>Oncor delivers power to around three million homes and businesses in Texas and operates more than 117,000 miles of transmission and distribution lines in the state.!http://feeds.directnews.co.uk/feedtrack/justcopyright.gif?feedid=1785&itemid=19374001|alt=ADNFCR-1785-ID-19374001-ADNFCR|src=http://feeds.directnews.co.uk/feedtrack/justcopyright.gif?feedid=1785&itemid=19374001!
