The launch of NXP Semiconductors' intelligent switches, which support the new HDMI 1.4 specification, is designed to help TV manufacturers deliver excellent high-definition entertainment with the most energy-efficient solutions, according to the firm.
Denis Marsault, who is responsible for NXP's media interfaces product line, said that by bringing its HDMI 1.4 smart switches to market quickly, the company is demonstrating its commitment to the TV industry.
His comments follow yesterday's unveiling of the TDA19997 and TDA19998 products, which fit easily into people's living rooms and support the Audio Return Channel feature, which reduces the number of cables required to deliver audio upstream for processing and playback.
"With the Audio Return Channel, HDTV viewers will be able to enjoy top quality sound without cable clutter," stated Mr Marsault.
He added that by the end of this year, almost one billion HDMI-ready systems will have been shipped internationally.
It has also been reported that since the technology was introduced, more than 700 businesses have adopted the HDMI interface.
