Dimming LED lights by 50 per cent saves 45 per cent of the energy consumed at full brightness, according to one high-tech firm.
Rick Farrell, president of EcoTek Lighting - which was previously known as Expotrans - said that this is in contrast to when householders dim fluorescent lamps, which reduces their life expectancy and should not be considered an effective way of conserving electricity.
His comments follow the company's announcement that it has designed and manufactured a new arched graphics indoor menu board with direct backlit LED array technology.
The new product is tipped to be ideal for use in graphics display areas within the fast casual restaurant industry.
"For example, dimming a fluorescent lamp by 50% might only save 20% of the energy," stated Mr Farrell.
"Both quick serve and fast casual units are considered energy hogs, in large part because their hours of operation can average 18 to 20 hours a day," he added.
