LEDs play a big part in solid-state lighting, it has been claimed.
The Michigan Solid-State Lighting Association (MSSLA) made its assertions as it announced its official launch yesterday (October 15th).
MSSLA stated that its mission is to help secure the state's position as a global leader in solid-state lighting research, development and manufacturing through public policy advocacy and knowledge sharing, as well as education.
"Solid-state lighting refers to the use of LEDs as sources of illumination, rather than electrical filaments, plasma or gas ... Benefits of solid-state lighting include an environmentally-friendly design that is mercury-free," the organisation added.
Commenting, Stanley Pruss, director of the Michigan department of energy, labor and economic growth, said that the formation of the body will help the state to achieve its energy-efficiency goals.
In recent days, an article on the Guardian's BusinessGreen network stated that an "energy efficiency revolution" is taking place and that LEDs are playing a big role in it.
