Foxconn Electronics has revealed that it will focus on the manufacturing of optoelectronics products as part of its planned investment in Chengu, China.
According to DigiTime Displays, a manufacturing base will be established in the city following the signing of a contract between Foxconn and the Chengdu city government.
This is estimated to be worth $1 billion (£613 million) and it will focus on the production of LCD TVs, LED backlight modules, LCD modules and LED lighting and packaging products.
It is thought that the new establishment will encourage related supply chain partners to the area, which sources believes will stimulate job opportunities for up to 100,000 local people.
The news provider states that the signing of this contract is a good indicator of the status Foxconn has achieved in the industry.
In related news, researchers at the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology in Japan have developed a deep UV LED which they claim can continue to function well at high temperatures.
