A new compact LED that is designed for use in ultra-slim, edge-lit, flat-panel applications has been launched by OSRAM Opto Semiconductor.
Due to be unveiled at the LEDs 2009 Conference, this is the latest addition to the firm's family of high-brightness Olson products.
Everything in this range is based on ceramic packages with silicone molded lens which offer 95 per cent out coupling efficiency.
According to Embedded.com, the Olson LX family delivers light output of 75 to 90 lm when driven at 350 mA, despite it only measuring 3x3x1.6 mm in size.
OSRAM will also have the Olson SSL family with 100-lm/W luminous efficiency for solid state lighting applications on display at the conference, along with Olson SX and MX families, which are designed for automotive applications.
In related news, an article for the Guardian's BusinessGreen network recently noted that LEDs are playing a big part in the "energy efficiency revolution" that is currently taking place.
