Camera makers are among the fans of a new off-the-shelf CMOS image sensor for machine vision from CMOSIS.
According to founder and vice-president of sales and marketing Lou Hermans, some of the firm's most important beta customers, including famous camera manufacturers, have provided very positive feedback on the CMOSIS product.
His comments precede the launch of the product at Vision 2009, an international image processing technology trade fair for components, systems and applications, which will be held in Stuttgart, Germany next month.
"Our CMV2000 sensor is exactly what the machine vision market needs right now - in terms of performance, features, size and price," stated Mr Hermans.
CMOSIS chief executive officer Luc De Mey added that the start-up's first 19 months of operation have confirmed that huge business opportunities exist for CMOS image sensors, particularly in areas previously deemed to be charge-coupled device strongholds.
The business is well-positioned for a substantial stake in future industrial and professional image sensor markets, he continued.
