An LED lamp manufactured by Cree has been selected by Walmart for use in its new stores and renovations.
The Cree LRP-38 is a PAR38-style LED lamp and offers energy efficiency, a controlled beam and high-colour rendition, as well as long bulb life.
It has been designed to shine for 50,000 hours and is suited to a retail environment, as the reduced glare enables customers to focus on products instead of the lighting.
Neal Hunter, president of Cree LED Lighting, said: "The selection of Cree's lamp followed a thorough analysis of performance, in-store evaluations and return on investment."
He added that the lamp also eliminates the use of toxic mercury.
The LED lights will be fitted in 650 stores over the year and will replace old ceramic metal halide in the produce and electronics departments.
In other news from Cree, the company recently introduced an A-lamp product which it claims has the highest illumination output in the industry.
