Altair Semiconductor has announced the launch of its FourGee LTE USB ExpressCard UE.
According to the company, which manufactures mobile semiconductors for mobile equipment, this is the first LTE Category 3 ExpressCard in the industry and can support download speeds of 100 Mbps.
It can also cope with upload speeds of 50 Mbps.
Due its early availability, the device will allow system vendors, terminal manufacturers and carriers to use small form UEs for FourGee product development and trials.
Oded Melamed, co-founder and chief executive officer of Altair Semiconductor, said: "In the coming months, we will continue to develop and deliver effective and power efficient 4G chipsets and software to device makers and carriers around the world."
In related news, Cadence Design Systems recently revealed that it will be delivering a new low-power flow which could help to improve the speed in which semiconductors are manufactured.
