A small LED manufacturer is finalising plans that it claims will see it become the world's highest volume maker of solid state lighting products.
Ilumisys has almost completed the construction of a 20,000-square-foot factory in south-east Michigan, which will be finished by the end of next year.
The firm currently employs seven people and ships hundreds of products a day, Crain's Detroit Business reports.
After the expansion, production will increase so that LED products are being produced in their millions.
President of Ilumisys Dave Simon said: "Indoor lighting is a $21 billion (£12.5 billion) market in the US, and LEDs are going to be a substantial part of that."
The company believes that LEDs will soon begin to replace traditional fluorescent lighting tubes.
