Freescale Semiconductor has unveiled the S08MP16, which it claimed has been optimised to address the fast-developing motor segment.
The product is part of the 8-bit MCU family and features three high-speed analogue comparators, two FlexTimers and a differential programmable gain amplifier.
Aiden Mitchell, director of industrial and multi-market microcontroller business at Freescale Semiconductor, commented that the S08MP16 delivers a powerful motor control solution for industrial and automotive applications.
He said: "Intelligent motor control is key in the effort to reduce global energy consumption and Freescale has a strong legacy of delivering embedded solutions to address this need."
The company noted that it can be a cost-effective choice for brushless DC (BLDC) motor control applications and also supports other types such as AC induction.
In other semiconductor news, iSuppli recently published a report indicating that the three biggest suppliers of the products in terms of revenue are Intel, Samsung and Toshiba.
