AVX Corp has unveiled a range of high-voltage ceramic capacitors in smaller case sizes to meet demand in the market, it has claimed.
Scott Harris, global product manager for high-voltage products at the firm, explained that developments in the industry have allowed the manufacturer to make the products much smaller without having to reduce the power they provide.
He noted that over the past year, some items at certain voltage ratings have been reduced in bulk by up to two case sizes.
Mr Harris pointed out that this progress can be important for devices in the telecoms, military aerospace and medical sectors.
"We are seeing an increased demand for higher capacitance values and higher voltage ratings in applications such as power supplies," he explained.
The products are available in case sizes of between 0805 to 3640, with voltage ranging from 600 V to 5,000 V.
Last month, a writer for MoneyWeek suggested that super-capacitors could replace mobile phone batteries in the future.
