Cree has announced the commercial release of a new product designed to be used outdoors, which produces a neutral colour.
The XLamp XP-E LED delivers up to 122 lumens at 350 mA at 4,500 K, emitting an "outdoor white" beam that the company claimed delivers the same flux and efficacy as its "cool white" variety of the bulb.
Paul Thieken, director of marketing of LED components, said: "Outdoor lighting manufacturers can now offer either a cool white or a neutral white colour point without trade-offs in lumen output or LED efficacy."
The company pointed out that the white XLamp XP-E is UL-recognised and conforms to the safety standards for such equipment, as well being having the test data accepted by Energy Star.
Mr Thieken also highlighted the convenience of the item if clients already own a product from the XP-E family, since changing the LEDs over is simple.
This week, technology commentator Jerald Kolansky wrote on GLG that LED manufacturers can often be split between fulfilling the needs of the lighting industry and the semiconductor sector.
