A set of speakers fitted with LED lights has been designed which plug straight into light bulb sockets to create an instant party ambience.
The LightSpeakers, made by Klipsch, can be screwed into a five or six-inch socket and deliver energy-efficient lighting and sound transmitted from a nearby device, such as an mp3 player or computer.
President of the company Paul Jacobs explained: "It offers brilliant light, reduces energy costs and creates a multi-room ambient music system in mere minutes. There's no wiring, no retrofitting and no software to deal with."
In his view, many new technologies being released are overly complex, whereas the LightSpeakers aim to reduce complications.
The wireless speakers use a 20-watt digital amplifier, while the LED bulbs are fully dimmable and could last up to 15 years, according to the company.
This week, energy supplier E.ON announced that it has developed an LED product which has been designed for use in streetlights.
