Lighting solution manufacturer Philips Lumiled has seen its three global manufacturing sites gain ISO/TS16949 certification, which it claims is a sign of the quality of the processes taking place there.
Darren Smith, vice-president of quality and zero defect at the company, explained that his team is always trying to reduce waste and minimise errors in its production line for lighting products such as Luxeon LEDs.
He remarked: "Thanks to the efforts and commitment of the entire company, this process affirms that Philips Lumileds is leading the quality effort for power LEDs."
The facilities in San Jose, Penang and Singapore - which are also used for design and development purposes - recorded no non-conformities in achieving the international standard, which is normally given to companies in the automotive industry.
Philips pointed out that it provides many of its bulbs exterior vehicle applications, but the certification also indicates the "robust quality management" in place at the sites.
The firm recently revealed that it is introducing barcodes on its LED bulbs so that customers can track them back through the production line.
