New generations of modern, durable LEDs are helping to drive greater demand for 1080p projectors, according to IMS Research.
The electronics industry analyst explains that LEDs are increasingly being used in projector lamps, giving added longevity to bulbs and reducing the operating costs of owning a projector.
As LEDs increase in brightness over time, their uptake in portable projectors is predicted to accelerate.
Michael Liu, market research analyst at IMS Research, says: "With more and more full-HD movies and television programmes available in the near future, 1080p projectors are forecast to become more and more popular."
He adds that 1080p projectors in particular are well suited to high-definition content, in the form of both television programming and cinematic footage.
The predictions come as part of IMS Research's World Market for Portable Projectors - 2010 Edition report.
LEDs used in portable media player display backlights could also remain popular in the years to come, as IMS Research also recently noted that demand continues for such dedicated devices in spite of the media-playing capabilities of other consumer electronics.
The analyst anticipates that high-end portable media players will be equipped with internet access, allowing them to compete with compact computer systems that might otherwise be used to view or listen to multimedia content.
