The "challenging" economic climate had a negative impact on server shipments in the Asia Pacific region in 2009, it has been revealed.
According to technology research and advisory firm Gartner, figures for the industry fell by 3.8 per cent last year, while vendor revenue declined by 6.2 per cent when compared to 2008.
However, it does seem as though things could be looking up for the sector, as server shipments grew by 19.6 per cent during the fourth quarter of last year, while revenue increased by 9.1 per cent.
Erica Gadjuki, principal research analyst at Gartner, said: "In the Greater China region, Hong Kong and Taiwan came out strongly this quarter, thanks to the restoration of business confidence there."
She added that active public spending helped to boost sales in Australia and Singapore.
In related news, Gartner recently revealed that worldwide semiconductor revenue is expected to reach $276 billion (£183.9 billion) in 2010, which will represent a 19.9 per cent increase on last year's figures.
