Connectors are playing an increasingly important part in the healthcare industry, it has been claimed.
Chris Parsonage, sales director for Hypertac, explained the importance of having a reliable transmission via an electrical connector in medical devices.
Writing for New Electronics, he stated that as the industry moves toward transmitting data directly to a doctor's mobile phone or PC, it is vital that all of the various components are reliable.
David Warren Lee, senior principal mechanical engineer in neuromodulation with US company Medtronic, told the author that his firm is developing a new range of small, easily concealable devices that are robust enough to withstand everyday use.
"We have to have a durable, reliable connector," he said. "It's a medical device and it has to work."
Global manufacturing firm ITT Interconnect Solutions recently unveiled a new range of connectors that are suitable for use in a range of harsh and challenging environments.
It claimed that the PHD 38999 Series was created in response to a demand for a new interconnecting system.
