Taiwanese optoelectronics company Chi Mei has merged with Innolux Display and TPO Displays to become the largest manufacturer of LCD panels in the country.
Although the newly merged company is in its infancy, chief executive Tuan Hsing-chien was already looking at upcoming business opportunities for the firm.
Chimei Innolux, as the optoelectronics company will now be known, plans to make 55 million shipments of LCD panels, according to Focus Taiwan. This would equate to around 32 per cent of the global market share.
In addition, the merger of the companies means that its monthly shipments of around 40 million panels would make it the largest supplier of small and medium-sized LCD panels in the world.
The new chief executive was cool on reports that Chimei Innolux plans to expand its operations into China with a growing LCD market.
Taiwanese regulation on its companies moving into China was relaxed allowing firms to invest in the country under the conditions that most of its investment remained at factories at home.
Computer products and optoelectronics remain some of Taiwan's leading exports.
