LED-backlit LCD televisions are expected to fall by more than 30 per cent in price, according to a leading research body.
LED inside believes that the price will decline during the latter half of this year as brand names lower costs and expects shipments of LCD TVs to increase.
Its research estimates the number of Metalorganic Chemical Vapour Disposition (MOCVD) system units being shipped will increase from 260 units in 2009 to 500 units this year.
Each MOCVD unit can individually meet the demand of producing around 200,000 LED-backlit TVs.
The increase in manufacturing systems is attributed to "the aggressive capacity expansion from China".
Indeed, the boss of a newly merged optoelectronics company would not confirm his company's intention to start manufacturing in China as Taiwanese companies can take advantage of more relaxed investment regulations.
LED inside warned that future concerns over supply and demand would concentrate the minds of leading brands and manufacturers, as capacity expanded.
