All-metal optical connectors have been launched by Molex in an attempt to serve industries that operate in harsh environments with the rugged designs that they require.
The LC2+ product line incorporates sealant elements to make sure that no fluids are able to seep through the connectors themselves and into active devices that may be expensive to replace.
A high-temperature strain relief boot has been designed to allow the connectors to function to the same necessary standards as similarly high-temperature fibre optic cables in the aviation sector.
Mark Matuszewski, product manager at Molex, says: "The LC2+ connector's unique features make further improvements by providing a high-performance discrete fibre solution intended for use in the most rigorous operating environments such as high temperature, severe shock and vibration."
The LC2+ connector is the next generation of a product line that previously included the LC2 connector, said by Molex to be highly popular for laser and LED communication systems in medical, aerospace and military applications.
