EMCORE this week released reliability results for its optoelectronics system, known as EMCORE Connects Cables, indicating the company has developed a highly reliable product.
The compact, lightweight, optical Connects Cables offer a proven alternative to the traditional bulky copper cables used in connecting computer communication paths.
Over the last three years sales of optical cables have grown to over 150,000 units, according to a report issued by LightCounting, a transceiver market research company surveying over 20 companies, with EMCORE having supplied supplied much of that demand.
EMCORE Connects Cables have a reliability rate higher than 5 FITs, or 5 failures in one billion hours of usage.
This is good news for the success of multimode optical fibre in high-performance data computing applications.
The results are based on EMCORE's 20 Gbps Connects Cables and the company has since developed 40 Gbps cables using the same technology.
Chris Wiggins, director of EMCORE's Enterprise Business Group, said: "We are committed to providing customers with the highest performance, quality and reliable optical interconnect products."
