Optoelectronics, discrete semiconductors (discretes) and sensors look set to enjoy record sales figures, according to new figures.
Market research firm IC Insights shows that after a difficult 2009, forecasts have significantly improved thanks to greatly increased demand both for consumer electronics and industrial equipment parts, Semiconductor Today reports.
The annual OSD report suggests that the optoelectronics market was significantly aided during the last 12 months by the increased interest in LCD TVs and solid state lighting, both of which are more reliant on LED technology in its make up.
According to IC Insight's own summary of the market, optoelectronics revenue outperformed discretes for the first time, which they called "an amazing milestone" given the comparative strength of the discrete market since the 1980s.
Although discretes are said to be facing some of toughest conditions to hit the market in recent years, power transistors now accounted for more than half of their revenues.
