An American component manufacturer has hailed its new wet tantalum capacitor as a "major breakthrough".
Pennsylvania-based Vishay Intertechnology (Vishay) has unveiled its SuperTan DSCC 10004 device, which it is claimed provides the highest capacitance per unit available thanks to its unique cathode system.
It features a glass-to-metal hermetic seal to be used in high-reliability applications, with an operating temperature range of -55 degrees to 85 degrees - voltage derating that range extends to 125 degrees.
The SuperTan is said to combine the "inherent reliability" that wet tantalum offers with the "capacitance stability of solid tantalum".
According to the company, the capacitor will "eliminate circuit impendence restrictions" while significantly increasingly its capacitance ratings.
Formed in 1962, Vishay is a discrete semiconductors specialist, supplying components for a variety of electronic devices supplying many industries including, aerospace, telecommunications and medical sectors.
Its operations spread across Europe and Asia, as well as the US.
