Korean electronics manufacturer Samsung is looking to sell 300,000 LED and LCD television sets to customers in India this year with the latest visual technology set to take a proportion.
Business Standard reports that the brand has launched ten new models of 3D TVs and will look to address the lack of content to date by offering 2D conventional transmission, allowing viewers to change with the press of a button.
R Zutshi, deputy managing director for Samsung's Indian operations, believes that around ten per cent of its target will be met with sales of the new appliances, characterised by the publication as the 'Bentley of this category', meaning that they may not sell in huge numbers in India straight away.
Indeed, perhaps the main problem facing electronics manufacturers globally is that few broadcasters have unveiled a 3D dedicated channel.
However, this may change with the upcoming sporting events such as the World Cup or the 2012 Olympics in London, which the BBC is suggesting may be filmed using the technology and the upcoming FIFA World Cup will have 25 matches filmed by Sony in 3D.
