An American electronics company has marked the anniversary of the discovery of the semiconductor laser by unveiling its new specialist feature to discuss innovations in the sector.
General Electric (GE) launched the Laser Diode-logues, which will form part of its Research and Development (R&D) Laboratory blog, Edison's Desk.
The new segment will look at previous advances both from its scientists and others in the industry as well as analyse possible future applications for the technology.
It also paid tribute to its own physicist Robert Hall who spent 40 years in its R&D facility and made a "significant impact" on its semiconductor technologies, which the brand continues to use in a range of its consumer products such as CD players and barcode scanners.
GE also owns a financial arm, which it says looks to capitalise on "market-specific opportunities" and American media and film organisation NBC Universal among its various businesses interests.
