A US semiconductor manufacturer has announced the release of a high-brightness LED (HB LED) driver.
California-based Semtech - which describes itself as a "high-quality analogue and mixed-signal" product provider - unveiled its SC446, designed for mid-size LCD panels as well as indoor and outdoor visual displays that can be incorporated into various equipment.
The company stated that its new release can operate across a "wide input voltage range" from 4.5 volts to 27 volts and, it is claimed, this product would be ideal for use in car batteries or regulated power supplies.
Furthermore, the "extra design tolerance" of the SC446 is capable of meeting the demands of time and temperature for "rugged" LCD panels that require an "ultra-bright light source for viewing in direct sunlight".
Semtech's product marketing manager for LED lighting and displays Steve Hawley said that the transition from CCFL to LED backlights is offering panel manufacturers a "cost-effective option".
