Optoelectronics manufacturers that produce touch screen panels for smartphones are being told that such is the popularity of these devices, social networks can be used "virtually anywhere".
Jennifer Jacobsen, director of public relations at Retovo.com - a consumer electronics review and shopping website - said the proliferation of this modern generation of mobile handsets has made visiting sites like Facebook "ultra-portable" and means users no longer need to be at their desks to gain access.
Furthermore, she indicated that smartphones are "opening doors" for social media in emerging markets where consumers may not be able to afford or "have the stability" of a desktop or laptop computer to use.
However, optoelectronics manufacturers were told that this can prove addictive to some thanks to its availability.
This follows an announcement by Sony Ericsson that roaming data usage for its mobile users would continue into the summer thanks to the popularity of social media on such media formats.
