A US electronics supplier has unveiled a new Sensor Interface Unit that can be used in data processing or control system applications.
North Atlantic Industries (NAI) has released the SIU6, which the manufacturer describes as a "rugged, compact" embedded input/output (I/O) device with an integrated power supply and COTS Multifunction I/O boards, which can operate in "harsh environments" such as extreme temperatures.
Furthermore, the Sensor Interface Unit's connector is incorporated into the backplane of the product to eliminate the need for custom wiring.
Lino Massafra, NAI's vice-president of sales and marketing, suggested the design's strong chassis will offer clients optimal processing and its centralised locations for processing, acquisition and distribution can be shared over an Ethernet system.
The company touts itself as a "leading independent supplier" of power supplies, measurement instruments, embedded I/O boards and motion simulation for industries including military and aerospace.
NAI was founded in 1955 and has a worldwide client base of renowned brands such as Boeing, Lockheed Martin and BAE Systems.
