US manufacturer Planar Systems has announced that it will begin shipments of new LED-illuminated rear-projection video wall displays.
The company, which was founded in 1983 and creates products for a range of clients including hospitals and military programmes, believes its new series of devices will eliminate ongoing costs and disruptions caused by lamp changes thanks to its estimated 60,000-hour lifespan and having no consumable parts.
Furthermore, the Oregon-based firm states that its new release combines "maintenance-free, solid-state LED illumination" with Planar's own custom-built technology, which offers a broader colour palette to make images more lifelike.
Jennifer Davis, vice-president of marketing, indicated that poor colour quality and image clarity have been among the shortcomings of diode-based technology to date.
She suggested that this is why the company has looked to develop NaturalColour Display Profiles, in a bid to set it apart from its rivals and deliver to customers "the best visual performance possible for their particular application".
