LEDs swept the board at the recent Lighting Industry Awards, claiming four of the five categories - with the fifth, a lifetime achievement award, going to a person rather than a product.
The dominance of LEDs was secured after deliberation between representatives of the trade press, energy suppliers, industry and government organisations.
After shortlisting three potential winners in each category, these four groups selected the overall victor in areas including domestic and commercial luminaires, best light source and innovation.
PhotonStarLED took two of the four product-based titles, including light source product of the year for its SmartWhite Intelligent Biodynamic LED Light Source.
The innovation award also went to PhotonStarLED, this time for its SmartNemesis Intelligent LED Luminaire.
Meanwhile, the commercial and domestic categories were won by Projection Lighting's AlphaLED Universal Open and Osram's LEDADVANCE respectively.
According to the Lighting Association, LEDs are helping to drive energy efficiency in the built environment, capable of saving four-fifths on utility costs when used in light fittings.
