As Mexico transitions away from incandescent bulbs from 2012 onwards, more LEDs may be sold in the region to replace them.
In preparation for this eventuality, Los Angeles-based Eco Depot has appointed an exclusive distributor, Eco Depot SA de CV, to ship its energy-efficient lighting solutions in the country.
Arthur Han, special assistant to the president and chief executive officer of Eco Depot, says: "This is our first distribution agreement in Latin America and we plan to expand our distribution network to other Latin American countries in 2011."
He adds that Eco Depot has the capacity to supply more than 30,000 LEDs each month to the area.
Under the terms of the agreement, the distributor pledges to purchase at least $5 million (£3.14 million) of LEDs in each of the first two years of the deal.
Eco Depot's lighting technologies include an innovative heat transfer system which it says is capable of dramatically raising the lighting efficacy of LED luminaires.
