Veeco has welcomed "aggressive plans" from Elec-Tech to boost its sales of LEDs to the Chinese market by opening new manufacturing facilities in the region.
Elec-Tech is opening two new factories to produce LEDs in Yangzhou and Wuhu, with metal organic chemical vapour deposition (MOCVD) systems from Veeco its "tool of choice".
The TurboDisc K465i system selected is designed for high-volume manufacturing of LEDs, with high throughput and excellent uniformity in the finished product.
Dr Bill Miller, executive vice-president and general manager of MOCVD operations for Veeco, says: "We are extremely pleased that Elec-Tech has chosen Veeco for their production requirements as they build out their aggressive plans in China."
Meanwhile, Elec-Tech chairman Tony Wang adds that Veeco was selected as the primary and preferred supplier for most of the 130 new systems to be installed at the two factories following an assessment of the available products on the market.
