Wireless sensors from California-based GainSpan have been certified under the Wi-Fi Protected Set-up (WPS) standard.
The accreditation was developed by the Wi-Fi Alliance, marking out technology that makes it easier to establish a wireless network.
Pankaj Vyas, vice-president of software and systems at GainSpan, says: "Over the past three years, we have been dedicated to making Wi-Fi provisioning as simple as possible.
"By our participation in the WPS certification process, we are fulfilling that goal."
The company incorporates wireless sensors into PIN activated and push-button networking equipment, offering users a choice of methods to establish a private connection.
Its accreditation relates to a Wi-Fi sensor reference design based on its GS1011 ultra-low-power wireless system-on-chip.
The chip offers 11 Mbps throughput for data rates compliant with 802.11b industry specifications.
GainSpan suggests that it is well suited to applications in smart energy, building automation systems and healthcare, as well as for consumer devices.
