LED manufacturer Oxley Developments is to provide engineering of the environmentally-friendly lighting devices to Northrop Grumman for two of its aircraft carriers.
The Queen Elizabeth class vessels are currently in construction for the Royal Navy and contain LEDs for the ships' navigation and signalling lights, such as the sidelights, stern light, anchor light, manoeuvring lights and warning signals.
Under the contract, Oxley will lead engineering of all the lights to Northrop Grumman in order to provide high reliability, low maintenance and high energy efficiency through the devices.
Andy Bednarek, sales and marketing director for Oxley, said: "We are engineering a state-of-the-art set of LED NVG-Friendly navigation and special operations lights suitable not only for the Queen Elizabeth class, but any other vessel greater than 50m in length."
Oxley recently took part in Secondary Science Day, which was held around the UK in March and saw the firm demonstrate how night vision works.
