A new partnership between General Electric (GE) and Rambus could see innovative new LED lighting systems enter the commercial and residential sectors.
According to the latter company, GE has penned a broad licensing agreement in order to use Rambus' manufacturing techniques and reference designs.
President and chief executive officer of GE Lighting Michael Petras said both companies are hoping to offer enhanced technologies through the arrangement.
He remarked: "One of our objectives as a lighting innovator is to quickly launch leading-edge products that can accelerate the adoption of quality LED lighting solutions around the world in commercial and residential settings."
President of lighting and display technology at Rambus Jeff Parker agreed, adding that the deal will launch a new generation of effective and energy-efficient products.
Earlier this month, the organisation gave a presentation on the acceleration of LED backlighting for displays at the third annual Green Photonics Forum, held by the Optoelectronics Industry Development Association.
