The new line of LEDs from global electronics brand Osram is said to improve safety and appearance as well as enhance control in motor vehicles, according to the firm.
Its range of Ostar visible and infrared diode-based innovations is proclaimed to offer automakers "significant advantages over conventional lighting solutions" and their efficiency creates notable energy savings on top of reductions in CO2 emissions.
Osram, which describes the most important characteristic of its corporate culture as being innovative, even indicated that its LEDs would in most cases outlast the car itself, such is their reliability.
How it improves safety is down to the decreased glare that originates from this type of luminaire, while lighting up the road with high definition, thus enhancing perceptions of contrast including "peripheral field of vision".
The Ostar LED headlamp features an integrated shutter "for horizontal light cut-off" and reducing system complexity, which Osram stated makes it the first light source to simplify automotive lighting systems.
