A Californian company has agreed a partnership with a semiconductor manufacturer from Taiwan in order to meet its design needs and help in supporting new process features.
mSilica, which makes LED driver integrated circuits for backlighting LCD TVs, notebook computers and solid-state lighting applications, is to team up with Vanguard International Semiconductor (VIS) to become one of its principal suppliers of wafer for its components.
Dilip Sangam, co-founder and chief technical officer at mSilica, believes having a partner like VIS will assist the company in bringing state-of-the-art diode-based technology to its end market.
"We now have more than a dozen exciting products for LCD backlighting and intelligent solid-state lighting in mass production with leading LCD TV and monitor OEMs as well as industrial customers," he said.
The US LED manufacturer was founded in 2006 and has so far raised $20 million (£13.2 million) from Silicon Valley investors and strategic clients.
