The versatility of colour LEDs means they can be used for a range of purposes, it has been claimed.
Industry expert Jerald Kolansky stated in an analysis for Gerson Lehrman Group that Philips Lumileds' Rebel product package colour LED portfolio in particular is applicable in many ways.
He noted colour LEDs function well in the architectural sector, with this form of lighting implemented regularly for exterior building displays, custom walls and pool and spa baths.
"In addition to the creation of custom colours, red LEDs mixed with today's white LEDs can create a more natural-looking white light," the specialist added.
Last month, Frank Harder of Philips Lumileds said interest in colour LEDs "continues to grow" and demand is reaching new heights on a global scale.
A number of manufacturers are now beginning to invest in colour LEDs, Mr Kolansky continued, such as Epistar, which has recently announced a new enhanced red LED chip.
