A new study by WinterGreen Research has detailed the potential uses of unmanned vehicles in a military and urban context thanks to onboard electrical connectors and other such functionality.
The devices could be a way for soldiers to recharge batteries vital to missions by hooking up to available electrical connectors, the analyst says, as well as act as patrol robots, bomb defusers and backpack carriers.
WinterGreen Research believes that renewed military interest will be a stepping stone towards commercial production of the devices, which are currently in early stages of development.
Susan Eustis, president of the research firm and co-author of the report, said: "There is no question that the large and midsize unmanned ground vehicles will be funded again - the only question is what will be the rationale for the funding?"
