Roving Reporter Terms and Conditions

This competition is run by Premier Farnell plc (we, our, us) on the following terms and conditions (the T&Cs).
In order to enter this competition, you must:

2.1. be registered on element14 community (element14c);

2.2. have joined the virtual event known as Roving Reporter at http://www.element-14.com/community/events/2738;

2.3. have internet access as entries may only be made online;

2.4. be 18 years of age or older at the date of submission of your entry;

2.5. not be an employee, officer or director or member of the direct family (including parents, siblings, spouse, partner, children, step parent or step child) of an employee, officer or director of any company which is a member of the Premier Farnell group or anyone associated with the running of this competition;

2.6. be a resident of the USA (meaning a legal resident of the 50 United States or the District of Columbia), UK, Germany, Singapore or China. Please note that, without limiting the generality of the foregoing, this competition is not available to residents of Australia or New Zealand and is void where prohibited by law;

2.7. submit your entry in accordance with these T&Cs;

2.8. comply with all other requirements of these T&Cs; and

2.9. agree that you have read, understood and agreed to be bound by these T&Cs.

3. You are advised to print and keep safe a copy of the T&Cs. We reserve the right to revise the T&Cs from time to time. If revised, the amended T&Cs will be posted on element14c. It is a condition of entry to the competition that you agree to be bound by and comply with the T&Cs as amended from time to time.

4. You can enter the competition by telling us using the form at http://www.element-14.com/community/events/2738

which electronics trade show or exhibition being held anywhere in the world in the period prior to May 2011 you would most like to attend and why. Your submission must be original and must not previously have been published elsewhere and you must have the right to submit it in your name. Submissions may be made in English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Chinese (both Mandarin and Cantonese), Korean, Thai. Only one entry to the competition per person is allowed. No email notification of receipt of your submission will be provided.

5. Towards the end of every 14 days in the period from 27 October 2010 (at 9 am CST in the USA) to 8 December 2010 (at 5 pm CST in the USA) our panel of judges will select a winning entry at our sole discretion from the entries submitted at that point of time. The criteria used to determine the winning entry shall be which entry the majority of judges consider the most interesting, which will have a 100% weighting. The panel of judges may be made up in the majority or in totality of employees of Premier Farnell plc.

6. Each winner will win the following (together being the Prize):

6.1. a ticket for that person to travel by air (or such other mode of transport as we agree with the relevant winner) to the trade show or exhibition nominated in his or her entry (the Show), together with the reasonable costs of transport to the airport from the home of the winner, up to 4 nights’ hotel accommodation (including hotel tax at standard rates) for that person, meals for the duration of the Show, and a ticket for that person to enter the Show; and

6.2. a Flip video camera of a make, model and specification determined by us.

The mode of travel, route and ticket type, together with the hotel type, location and facilities, the meal types and venues from which they are provided and type of drinks suitable for consumption and the room type will be as determined by us. Each winner must provide from his or her own funds any spending money required for the duration of the Show and must pay for all room service charges, gratuities, costs of souvenirs and incidental upgrades, telephone call and other data access costs (other than those referred to in 6 below) and the costs of insurance to attend the Show and all other expenses not expressly covered by us above. Please be aware that we may not be able to accommodate any special dietary, travel or accommodation needs you may have. It is the winner’s responsibility to obtain at his or her own cost and have in force any travel documents, visas or other permits or authorisations to travel by the route proposed. Air travel is subject to availability and blackout dates and may not be available from all originating locations. The Prize is non-negotiable and non-refundable and no cash alternative will be offered. The value of the Prize will vary according to the place of the Show and residence of the winner but is roughly estimated to be in the region of USD$3000. We reserve the right to substitute the Prize with a suitable alternative.

7. It is a condition of your entering this competition that you agree that, if you win:

7.1. you will use your Flip camera to produce short video clips of your visit to the Show; and

7.2. you will keep a short diary or blog of your visit to the Show;

7.3. you will post your videos and blog entries to the relevant page dedicated for this purpose on element14c during the time that you are at the Show and, in the case of your final videos and blog entries, within 24 hours of the end of the Show. We will pay the costs of data access in uploading the videos and blog entries to element14c; and

7.4. you agree to be accompanied at the Show by our representative.

8. All video postings and blog entries will be subject to the terms of use of element14c accessible at http://www.element-14.com/community/themes/e14/pages/e14fullterms_en.html and in particular must not be threatening, derogatory, defamatory or offensive, obscene, pornographic or indecent in any way or infringe the rights of privacy or other rights of third parties or any law, regulation or legal duty. Without limiting our rights under the element14c terms of use, we reserve the right to remove or amend any video or blog entry. You should make sure that you have any consents you need to include images or other material in your videos and blog.

9. By entering the competition you give us:

9.1. the right to publish and use your name and image as winner of the competition

9.2. the exclusive right to use your videos and blog and any comments made by you in connection with the competition or the Show

on our websites and in our promotional materials. Here ‘our websites’ and ‘our promotional materials’ means the websites and promotional materials of any company which is a member of the Premier Farnell Group

10. Any registration with element14c is subject to the element14 terms of use and privacy policy accessible at http://www.element-14.com/community/themes/e14/pages/e14fullterms_en.html.

No responsibility will be accepted for registrations or competition entries which are not received for any reason, including technical error.

11. We will endeavour to choose and notify the winner during any 14 day period by not later than 7 days following the end of that period but may be delayed in some instances. Our decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.

12. Winners will be notified by email (to the email address provided at the time of registration on element14c) within 7 days of being chosen. To claim his or her Prize, the winner must confirm receipt of notification within 5 days of notification by us. If the winner does not respond in that time period, he or she will be deemed to have waived entitlement to his or her prize and a further winner will be selected. Details of the winner will be posted on element14c as soon as reasonably possible following confirmation of receipt of notification from the winner.

13. We reserve the right to verify the eligibility of any winner before the Prize is issued and may require proof of identification and age. If we suspect fraud or misconduct, or if it is discovered that a registrant has failed to comply with the eligibility requirements set out in the T&Cs then the Prize may be withheld or withdrawn or another Prize winner may be selected.

14. We reserve the right to withdraw or amend the competition or extend the period of participation in our sole discretion. We will not be liable for any such withdrawal or change.

15. You agree to be responsible for all applicable taxes, duties or other charges payable in relation to the Prize.

16. You may not enter this competition if by entering into it you may cause us and/or you to be in breach of any agreement (including but not limited to any contract of employment) to which you are a party or in breach of any law, regulation or rule having the force of law to which you or we may be subject. We reserve the right to disqualify any entry made in breach of this condition.

17. We respect the policies of employers which forbid the acceptance of prizes or prize money by their employees. The winner must obtain signed authorisation from a director of his or her employer (if appropriate) confirming permission to accept the Prize and/or attend the Show and comply with the requirements of these T&Cs.

18. We cannot be responsible for the quality or condition of the meals provided, the chosen hotel or Show nor for the provision of services by the chosen restaurant, travel company, airline, hotel or Show organiser or for the nature of the experience of the winner in travelling to or attending the Show, for which only the winner and the chosen service provider can be responsible. We exclude all and any liability for any cost, claim, expense, loss, liability or damage suffered or incurred by the entrant in entering this competition or the winner in winning or in preparing for, travelling to or attending the Show or in recording or posting any video or blog (save for the costs that we agree to meet in 5 above) even where arising from our negligence.

19. The Flip video camera is not supplied with the benefit of any warranties from PF and is only supplied with the benefit of any warranty provided by the manufacturer. All further warranties or representations are hereby expressly excluded to the fullest extent permitted at law. Without limiting the generality of the preceding statement we hereby exclude all and any liability arising out acceptance, use, quality condition, suitability or performance of the Flip video camera, even where arising from our negligence.

20. We do not exclude liability under the T&Cs for death or personal injury arising from our negligence, or for breach of Part II of the Consumer Protection Act 1987 or for any matter in relation to which it would be illegal for us to exclude or attempt to exclude our liability.

21. The competition and any dispute or claim arising out of or in connection with it or its subject matter shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the law of England and Wales and you irrevocably agree that the courts of England and Wales shall have exclusive jurisdiction to settle any dispute or claim that arises out of or in connection with the competition.
