Spending on optoelectronics infrastructure has returned in the European network hardware market, reports Infonetics Research.
During the third quarter of 2010, the analyst saw growth throughout the western hemisphere, with 16 per cent expansion sequentially in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) and in the US.
Andrew Schmitt, directing analyst for optical at Infonetics Research, says: "Optical network equipment spending returned in the EMEA region after many quarters of a weak recovery.
"Spending was particularly strong in advanced wavelength-division multiplexing systems."
This compares with the Asia-Pacific market, where spending on optoelectronics devices for fibre networks is slowing at an accelerating rate.
Mr Schmitt joined Infonetics Research with 14 years of experience in optical networking in March 2009.
His remit with the analyst is not only to cover a core set of optical networking technologies, but also to identify new areas of the technology into which the company's research should expand for the future.
