Researchers at Samsung have claimed that images sensors are yielding results for the mobile phone market.
The researchers have announced that they have developed 12 MP and 8 MP CMOS sensors for smartphones and other wireless communications devices.
They explained that the 12 MP sensors are based on 1.12 micron technology, while the 8 MP sensors are based on 1.4 micron technology.
According to Samsung, the sensors offer crisp image quality and HD video recording at high frame rates.
The manufacturer added that the sensors will go into mass production in a short while, though samples of the sensors will be available sometime in the third quarter of 2011.
Founded in 1938, Samsung is the world's largest private conglomerate in terms of revenue.
The group comprises various international affiliated businesses, with the majority appearing under the Samsung brand.
