OmniVision Technologies has unveiled its first 3 MP CMOS image sensor using its sophisticated 1.4 µ OmniBSI pixel architecture.
The product is a new member of the company's backside illumination (BSI) sensors portfolio.
According to the manufacturer, the OmniBSI pixel architecture allows the OV3660 to provide high quality imaging in a small optical format.
OmniVision Technologies explained that the sensor provides regular compressed JPG pictures for still images, making the OV3660 compatible with a wide range of hardware platforms.
Meanwhile, Irvine Sensors Corporation has reported operating results for its first quarter of fiscal 2011.
Total revenues for the fiscal 2011 first quarter were $4.3 million (£2.6 million), up 34 per cent from $3.2 million in the first quarter of fiscal 2010.
This is, the firm confirmed, nearly double the approximately $2.2 million total revenues of the immediately preceding quarter that ended October 3rd.
