MediaTek has confirmed that it is to invest $94.7 million to expand its research and development centre and business operations in Singapore.
To this end, the semiconductor company for wireless communications and digital multimedia offerings has opened a new office at One North in Singapore.
According to Leo Yip, Singapore Economic Development Board chairman, MideaTek's expansion in Singapore will further strengthen our semiconductor ecosystem.
"Besides generating spin-offs to Singapore-based semiconductor manufacturers, MediaTek's partnerships with local research centres such as VIRTUS at the Nanyang Technological University, will further strengthen our pool of analogue and RF IC design talent," he added.
MediaTek intends to double its team strength from the existing 150 employees over the next few years, the company confirmed.
Meanwhile, ON Semiconductor recently announced its top distribution partners of the year.
According to the firm, the honours were given to distributors that led overall channel sales, grew market share, captured increased sales of products from acquisitions made by ON Semiconductor and scored high on overall process excellence.
