Wireless communication device customers and manufacturers may be interested to hear that Google is bringing video chat to Android smartphones.
Google Talk with video and voice chat will not only work over Wi-Fi, but over 3G and 4G networks.
The new version of Google Talk will also be compatible with Android tablets.
Meanwhile, Edd Dawson, editor of the independent broadband advice website broadband.co.uk, has claimed that media tablets as well as increasingly sophisticated phones are driving demand for mobile broadband.
Tablets are increasing the use of mobile broadband, but he added that there are less tablets about than there are smartphones.
"So, it's the smartphone that's really driving the use, although obviously the tablet is adding to it," he remarked.
"Some of the providers are struggling to cope with the demand," according to Mr Dawson.
