Robby Gulri, Echoworx's vice president of products, explained that the consumerisation of IT in the workplace had recently snowballed.
"It's everywhere, not just in the world of security. Even when a new phone comes out with a new operating system and feature set, it's the marketing, business and sales people who are talking more about it than IT."
"Even small businesses, who are pretty rigid in the way that they do things, are starting to see five people in the company that have five different devices and five different ways of doing things," he said.
According to Mr Gulri, IT departments within firms are often "absolutely afraid of this trend of the user community defining what IT should be doing".
However, he added that the uptake of new devices presents "an opportunity for a lot of companies".
